That’s hello in Thai.
The 2 weeks away from a hustle and bustle life in singapore and into a slow pace but meaningful life in thailand-chiang mai was a fruitful session for myself.
As a team of 19 singapore students, 9thailand students and 2 teachers-in charge, we went up to one of the villages in chiang mai, to serve the child care center. We found out that over at the village of 200 people, education system was an issue, as not many teachers are willing to stay in this village to educate the villagers there.
Throughout the 10days in the village, we did construction work for the childcare-cementing, painting, nailing, transporting of materials. In addition, we took turn to cook and to teach the aged 4-9 students there with our learning materials.
My learning points from this trip through chatting with the people around me are :
1) Relationships are maintained by the time invested in it. Quality time is essential in making relationships work.
2) Have a positive mindset and tell yourself that “I CAN DO IT”. Only then, you can go far in life!
On a whole, I truly enjoyed this Thailand Youth expedition trip/community service trip. I hope that YOU reading this post, if you are presented a chance to participate in community service,be in local or overseas, do not hesitate to join!
-cause life is more than just me, myself and I.
Leaving for thailand for community work in just a few more hours. My mood right now? Mixed feelings is definitely an understatement.
This trip would take me 2weeks, away from all the work from Singapore, away from the contact with my family and friends. I guess it’s good to take a break from this hectic life in SG, living in a place with no wifi connection. However,at the same time, I couldnt bear to leave all my work behind, my sense of guilt of leaving loads of work behind with the titles of being a leader and an organiser is killing me. And that’s what makes up my mixed feelings for this Thailand trip. Excited, keen to explore, yet guilty for leaving.
I’m a high flyer? One that gets to travel so frequently? I guess I would count myself being fortunate for being able to travel to different parts of the world to explore.
It’s traveling to some where out of Singapore that makes you realise how great a nation Singapore is as compared to your host nation, traveling makes you miss your love ones, appreciate them more than ever, appreciate Singapore more than ever.
I guess I’m used to saying goodbye to Singapore , goodbye to my parents. Some times I wish I have more time for them:’)
Nonetheless, traveling is exploring. With exploring, it comes learning and experiences. I always believe in this : WE ARE BORN TO EXPLORE.
Till then, take care.
